SSD in ASA Firewall

Hi all,

Not great on these and trying to learn.

This is for a CISCO ASA 5008-X firewall.

It's a simple question about the firewall in general, not that there is a problem with it.

I would like to know, what the SSD is used for in the ASA firewalls.  And can I put a new one in as a replacement, say a Samsung SSD?

Does it store any confidential / configuration data?

The SSD drive on the ASA hardware devices runs the Firepower module, which provides the NGFW features - so it stores the firepower application and it's associated configuration data.

Would this data be dangerous if someone else were to get hold of the SSD with the firewall?

I am thinking of selling the unit.

If I replaced and put another SSD in, I presume another brand of SSD would be fine, other than CISCO?

@Reg80 in which case just reimage the device, this will wipe the configuration and all data.

If not and you have a spare SSD, you could connect it and see if it is accepted.
