Hi,
I have 2 PIXies with configured failover.
Yesterday I switch off and then switch on Secondary PIX.
But when I doing telnet to Primary or Sercondary PIX and put "show ver" to get Up Time I see still the same time, 270 days in my case. But Secondary was yesterday rebooted. Is It possible get real Up Time of each box?
Thanks
Peter

The secondary's clock is also synch'd from the primary, and a by-product of that is that the uptime on both units shows as the uptime of the primary. In other words, if you reboot teh secondary it will still show the uptime of the primary.
It has always worked this way, no way that I know of to see the actual uptime. There was an enhancement request added a looooong time ago (CSCdr69854) to fix this but I don't believe anything has ever been done on it.

Hello Peter,
You should have no problem with uptime information if you are using PIX515/525 family with 6.2(2) or later FW SW version.
Did you check if you connected into the secondary box before the 'sh version' command?
The 'show failover' is the only command I have found to check properly where to my telnet connected after a failover situation.
You can also check with the 'sh failover' the active status time in seconds.

Hi Tibor,
I use PIX535 with PIXOS 6.2(2), but I did not find a information - up time of each box.
Can you tell me how I get this info?
I checked my connections. Active status time is unimportatnt for me now. I need up time of each box, primary and secondary. Time when box has a power 220V.
Thanks
Peter

Hello Peter,
The 'sh ver' command with 6.2(2) displays me the uptimes of the two boxes ( we have 515E FO pair boxes ) when I telnet to the primary and secondary boxes separately:
primary_515# sh ver
Cisco PIX Firewall Version 6.2(2)
Cisco PIX Device Manager Version 2.1(1)
Compiled on Fri 07-Jun-02 17:49 by morlee
primary_515 up 3 days 15 hours
secondary_515# sh ver
Cisco PIX Firewall Version 6.2(2)
Cisco PIX Device Manager Version 2.1(1)
Compiled on Fri 07-Jun-02 17:49 by morlee
secondary_515 up 5 days 12 hours
This machine is licensed to run in failover secondary mode only

Hi,
like wrote gfullage exists a bug:
CSCdr69854 Bug Details:
Headline enhancement- PIX show boot uptime functionality
Product pix Model
Component pix-app Duplicate of
Severity 6 Severity help Status New Status help
First Found-in Version 5.1(2) First Fixed-in Version Version help
Release Notes
Enhancement request for a new timer display, which displays the boot uptime.
The show tech-support up xx mins xx secs displayed on a PIX configured with
statefull failover is not reflecting the per system actual uptime.
This feature would be a helpfull tool when troubleshooting.
Tibor, are you using statefull failover?

I see now, sorry.
My solution is not a statefull one. I am using a simple failover cable between the primary and secondary boxes so the tunnels and connections have to rebuilt every time when switch over occurs between the boxes.
