Can someone from Cisco clarify whether the auto update functionality can be used to update sensor versions (i.e. from 5.0.5 to 5.0.6)? I had a problem last time where the sensors kept re-applying the same patch.
From the help:
"You can configure automatic service pack and signature updates, so that when service pack or signature updates are loaded on a central FTP or SCP server, they are downloaded and applied to your sensor."

Yes, the auto update can be used for service packs (i.e. 5.0(5)->5.0(6) or 4.1(4) - 4.1(5)).

The signatures updates from the IDS Sensor and the Managment software can be downloaded from Cisco Downloads. The readme file combined with each software udpate has the specific instructions on updating the signatures. The following document also includes information on copnfiguring sensors.
