Using the ASA5505 as an internal Firewall

Hi we are an Emergency Service provider and up until now the admin data network and the 999/911 data network have been physically separate. We now need to connect the two to exchange statistics and we need to make a decision about how to firewall the two. I have ASA5510 experience using the ASDM and thought about using a 5505. We only need to pass a small subset of Protocols and Ports between two networks on the same site. Is a 5505 a good choice?

The ASA5505 is ideal for small networks.

How many users will be behind the firewall?

Thanks for your reply. On the admin network we have 1500 users, on the Emergency response network we have about 25 maximum although probobly there will be only one user going through the firewall, an automated account transferring statistics. Can I use the ASDM with this model do you know? I am only familiar with the ASDM, not command line.

Thanks, Ray

Yes sure, you can use the ASDM for the ASA5505.

Also, in your scenario the ASA 5505 will work without any problems.

And also, just as a remark if you have version x.0 on you ASA the ASDM version that you need to use is (x-2).0

Please let me know if you need something else.

Thanks for your reply. I guessed the 5505 would be fine but its always reassuring to get a second opinion before spending somebody elses money.

Thanks, Ray
