I have a PIX 501 behind a cable modem that is performing very, very poorly. Typical web surfing speeds are worse than dial-up! If I remove the PIX, and either plug a PC directly to the cable modem or use another broadband gateway, the speed improves dramtically. Is there anything that I can do to increase the preformance of the PIX or something I should look for to fix this? I have already tried increasing the DNS window size in the PIX which made no difference. Also, I have no internal DNS server, so the "ident" problem listed in the PIX tech notes doesn't help either. Monitoring the PIX shows an average kbps speed of 14-25 kbps download speed. Removing the PIX fixes my speed issue, but I would rather keep it. Any ideas?

PIX performance issue like yours is usually caused by a bad configured interface or configuration issues.
Please check your duplex settings.
Please provide a "show interface"
