Virtual Cisco ASA

Hi Folks,

First time posting on the Security portal. I have configured standalone Cisco ASA's but I need to configure a Virtual Cisco ASA and I'm not sure where to start except setting up an ASDM.

I guess, I need to understand what Virtual Cisco ASA is to begin with.

I know I need to install it on a server per what I have read so far but would appreciate any help that you good folks can extend to help please.

@MasoodA the ASA virtual is the ASA software image virtualised, so this means you can run in private cloud (Vmware, Hyper-V etc) or public cloud (AWS, Azure etc) - so no need for physical hardware (ASA or Firepower). ASA virtual supports the majority of features that if running on dedicated ASA/Firepower physical hardware.

Hi Rob,

any document that shows actual configuration process to be installed on a server? I mean after lunching ASDM using [ASA IP address]/admin.

Hi Rob,

So, I have an EXI host on which i need to install Virtual ASA. ( I'm not familiar to virtualization and terminologies).

vmnico

vmnic 1-4

to create vSwitch on 1-4 so I can create VLANS. on hardware appliances I have no issues but on Virtual? I am not sure.

I need to create Vswitches? if yes, How?

is there configuration example that I can read and follow please?

I have been given the task but I have never done virtual ASA. I'm a routing and switching guy.

I believe, there is a video on Vswitch on EXI - from Rom. I'm not sure if its you or not? but it gets into lots of things. tons of machines created. I only need 4 Vswitch and few vlans. is there a video training to show how to create these VSwitches and VLAN on EXI host? and then configuring Virtual ASA?

I'm sorry if I am asking too much. first time attempting. I am sure if I see a basic how to, I can get it done.
