We have an ASA5550. Besides VPN features, does it also include the PIX features? Do we need to purchase the additional license to use the PIX features?

Thanks.

Debra-

The ASA is the direct replacement of the PIX. The features of each are the same, assuming you're running the same level of OS. However only the ASA supports the newest OS. There is a Security Plus license. Here's what it gets you.

As business needs grow, customers can install a Security Plus upgrade license, enabling the Cisco ASA 5505 Adaptive Security Appliance to scale to support a higher connection capacity and a higher number of IPsec VPN users, add full DMZ support, and integrate into switched network environments through VLAN trunking support. Furthermore, this upgrade license maximizes business continuity by enabling support for redundant ISP connections and stateless Active/Standby high-availability services. This combination of market-leading security and VPN services, advanced networking features, flexible remote management capabilities, and future extensibility makes the Cisco ASA 5505 an excellent choice for businesses requiring a best-in-class small business, branch office, or enterprise teleworker security solution.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your response.

We need to do bank tranfer to and from the main frame remotely. Would the ASA 5550 provide enough security? Would you purchase the additional Security Plus license?

Thanks.

Debra

If you don't need redundancy then you probably don't need the Security Plus license. How you transfer the files depends on the security. Some mainframes can secure their NDMs. Do you want an IPSec tunnel?

Thanks for your prompt response.

Yes, I want to setup IPSEC tunnel if possible. What do you think about SSL VPN?

Thanks.
