Yesterday’s workforce is not today’s workforce is not tomorrow’s workforce.

Since 2019, it’s safe to say that exponential change, in all aspects of life, has been the only constant. We can see by the trends in the workforce that the Hybrid Work model is here to stay with more remote opportunities piquing the interest of job seekers everywhere. These shifts, juxtaposed with rapid ever-developing technology, greatly scales the enterprise network and its complexity.

Network admins are poised to enable the workforce to be efficiently and securely connected. ISR 1131 provides a flexible, small form factor, SOHO solution that is the first of its kind to support Wi-Fi 6!

ISR 1130s and Wi-Fi 6

The 1130 series platform has an embedded access point that can be managed via the built-in wireless controller or a centralized Wireless LAN Controller within your infrastructure. All flavors within the 1130 series are Wi-Fi 6 capable and, upholding full feature parity with the ISR1K family of routers, come with 8 switchports and optional pluggable LTE modules with 5G capability on the way!

Why Wi-Fi 6?

Wired or Wireless, we want our data, and we want it now! Following the development of Wi-Fi 4 and Wi-Fi 5, increasing transfer speed was the next hurdle to jump. Wi-Fi 6 enables access points support more clients in dense environments and provides a better experience for users of typical wireless LAN networks.

OFDM vs OFDMA

The shift from OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) to OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) allowed for a more efficient use of radio transmit resources. Utilizing OFDM, users would transmit one at a time using the entire channel. OFDMA subdivides channels and utilizes resource units of various sizes to transmit data from different users simultaneously.

Wi-Fi 6 provides more-predictable performance for advanced applications such as 4K or 8K video, high-density, high-definition collaboration apps, all-wireless offices, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Traffic prioritization, in conjunction with other technologies, results in higher throughput and up to 75% less latency for devices utilizing the standard making it a more efficient way of communicating wirelessly. It only makes sense that we incorporate the standard across this series of routers!

An All-in-One Solution

It is important that network admins stay equipped with versatile hardware that can be applied to various use cases across the organization.

  • SASE Cloud Adoption: Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) offers an alternative to traditional data center-oriented security by unifying networking and security services into a single cloud-delivered service. This router, like others in the series, can integrate existing an SD-WAN enterprise with Cisco Umbrella Secure Internet Gateway to securely connect with you with your SaaS applications and cloud provided IaaS platforms.

  • SD-WAN AppQoE: Application Quality of Experience (AppQoE) utilizes different WAN optimization capabilities to enable traffic optimization for a better client experience at the application level. For apps both on-prem and in the cloud, techniques such as TCP optimization Forward Error Correction, and Packet Duplication, allow for a seamless access to your business-critical applications.
  • Managed Service Provider (MSP): MSPs are entrusted with ensuring the operation, no matter the organization, stays available and that there is a quality experience. To streamline processes, the flexible nature of the ISR 1131 allows MSPs to position this router as a CPE device with the ability to provide a wide variety of rich features to their customers.
  • Zero Touch Remote Worker Deployment: All these feature options combined with Zero Touch / Plug ‘n Play, our universal controller/autonomous mode image, and on box security suite make deployment and maintenance within your operation painless, as well as easy to integrate and manage.

Remote Worker: Zero Touch Deployment

Hybrid work has obliterated the concept of the “network edge” with a transition to cloud-based services and a greater use of VPN and remote work solutions. It is pertinent that the hardware deployed in the environment is as capable and future proof as needed for the network and operation it supports.
