Same Switch

In this case, the client is unable to communicate with another client. Possible scenarios include:

  • The Layer 3 Client is connected to a single Edge, same Virtual Network, but a different VLAN
  • The Layer 3 Client is connected to a single Edge, same Virtual Network, and the same VLAN
  • The Layer 2 Client is connected to a single Edge, same Virtual Network, and the same VLAN

Possible causes for the issue include the following:

  • MAC programming issues could lead to the MAC not being learned by the Switch. Because of this, the Client is unable to ping other clients in the same VLAN.
  • The ARP is not populated correctly in the network, across the Switches.

Across Switches

In this case, the Client is unable to communicate with other clients. Possible scenarios include the following:

  • The Layer 2 overlay extension is enabled, and the Client is connected to a different Edge and the same Virtual Network
  • The Client is connected to a different Edge, the same Virtual Network, and the same VLAN
  • The Client is connected to a different Edge, the same Virtual Network, and a different VLAN
