Core Issue

The symptom of this problem is receiving the following error message:

%SYS-6-READ_BOOTFILE_FAIL: tftp://10.48.92.61/c2600-i-mz.121-12.ABC File read failed -- Timed out.

%Error opening tftp://10.48.92.61/c2600-i-mz.121-12.ABC (Timed out)

Sleeping for 4 secs before next netboot attempt

The possible causes follow:

  • The FTP or TFTP server is unreachable.
  • In the case of the FTP server, the username and password is incorrect.
  • The Cisco IOS  Software image does not exist on the FTP or TFTP server, or the name has been mistyped.
  • The Cisco IOS Software image on the FTP or TFTP server does not have appropriate access permissions.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, refer to the following options:

  • Verify connectivity to the FTP or TFTP servers.
  • In the case of the FTP server, verify the username and password.
  • Verify the presence of the Cisco IOS Software image on the server.
  • Verify access permissions of the Cisco IOS Software image on the server.
