This event had place on Tuesday 22nd, June 2021 at 9hrs PDT
This session provided a broad overview of the overall unified communications solutions available on the Catalyst 8000 family. Learn about the modular voice capabilities of the Catalyst 8300/8200 Edge platforms including the newer additions such as NIM-PVDM and C-SM-NIM adapter. Explore the voice capabilities of the platforms in SD-WAN mode ( (industry’s only SD-WAN solution that offers support for IP telephony). Decipher the key comparisons between Catalyst 8300/8200 Edge platforms and ISR 4000 Series when deployed as a unified communications platform. Leave the session with a clear view on how to choose the best platform for your voice infrastructure.

A: There are mechanisms to handle the air gap to be able to do a periodic manual sync of licenses to the online license service. For Air-gapped network, you can manually download and upload licensing data using offline workflow in Smart license using Policy.
A:CME is supported.
A:This is a NIM which hosts PVDM modules for DSP functions. There are no interfaces on the module, it specifically host PVDM based DSPs.NIM-PVDM is the Next-generation digital signal processor (DSP) module with an onboard DSP daughter card which eliminates the need to procure an additional T1/E1 NIM card in order to utilize a PVDM4 chip for IP media services. A:No
A: Cat8k with Smart license policy(SLP), you have offline workflow which is air-gap in nature. No SLR/PLR in SLP.Please, take a look at the FAQ that we have posted:https://community.cisco.com/t5/networking-documents/smart-licensing-using-policy-routing-a-simplified-licensing/ta-p/4405647.
A:The tool has been refreshed - entire code has been re-written that includes new platforms and other mistakes that were present in the current tool. In fact, I wanted to post it before today's session. Will be posted before end of this week. You can use the same link.
A:The NIM-PVDM modules do not support an upgrade of the number of DSPs installed in the field. Use appropriate SKU
A:Correct.PVDMs are supported on the NIM modules for voice functions. There are no PVDM slots on the motherboad in the Catalyst 8000 platforms as there were on the ISR4000 series.
A: Yes. In 17.6.1.
A:MGCP is not supported in controller mode.
A:DNA licensing is mandatory for all services/features on C8Ks. SRST feature will be covered part of DNA-Advantage license with Network advantage perpetual stack in autonomous mode and with DNA-Adv in SD-WAN mode. You would still need L-SRST licenses to add.
A:Fundamentally autonomous mode is CLI based configuration as our routers have traditionally been managed. Controller mode is management by vManage as part of a SDWAN deployment.
A:No direct replacement for 4351, but recommend to go for C8300-2N2S-6T model as the replacement.
A:No, this is not supported. Link: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/voice/cube/configuration/cube-book/voi-virtual-cube.html .
A:Of coures they will be EoL eventually as part of our product life cycle. They will continue to have support after EoL as we have with previous products.
A:Roadmap. no ETA yet.
