NSO System Requirements

Could we have some CPU/Memory/Disk requirements for NSO - there's nothing in any of the PDF documentation that we can provide to compute team to properly size an installation. Any feedback would be appreciated including NSO administrators who can share what they are using and for how many devices/services.

Thanks everyone

Richard

See the scaling and performance optimization chapter in the development guide: https://developer.cisco.com/docs/nso/guides/scaling-and-performance-optimization/#hardware-sizing and https://developer.cisco.com/docs/nso/guides/scaling-and-performance-optimization/#scaling-ram-and-disk

It is not in the getting started guide because it depends on your application.

I think its on the FAQ here? https://developer.cisco.com/docs/nso/faq/

NSO requires a standard Unix box

Medium (< 1000 devices): 4 Core CPU and 32 GB RAM
Large (> 1000 devices): 8 Core CPU and 64 BG RAM
Linux/x86 – Linux/x86 64
MacOS 10.6/x86 64

Is that the info you need?

Thanks @bigevilbeard - I find it interesting that its not in any of the documentation (like the 'getting started' section) and a search on Cisco didn't find this either. But thanks for taking the time to answer. Still don't have disk sizing guidelines though.

Sure thing. I found in an old thread

100 devices, 5000 services = 32 GB RAM 4vCPU
5000 devices, 20000 services = 64 GB RAM 6vCPU
20000 devices, 150000 services = 96 GB RAM 8vCPU

It is an old estimate so take it with a grain of salt as NSO went through considerable changes since then.

Then in another thread, again old.

Medium (< 1000 devices): 4 Core CPU and 32 GB RAM
Large (> 1000 devices): 8 Core CPU and 64 BG RAM
Linux/x86 – Linux/x86 64
MacOS 10.6/x86 64

Hope this helps.
