Cannot get Open DNS configured with new router

I am having a slow and painful afternoon as a technophobe trying to set up Open DNS with my new Brighbox2 router. I was using Opend DNS sucessfully for years but now have new EE router when upgraded to fibre. I have logged in to router and changed DNS server from "provided by IP" to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 and think that on my Open DNS page I have done the right thing by giving the network a "friendly name".  I have restarted my PC. But when I do the tests they do not work. I am loath to restart router as have only had it a cople of weeks and last time it was switched off we had no internet access for 4 days. What do I do now?

What message does http://welcome.opendns.com/ come up with?

Oops you are not using OpenDNS yet.

You either didn't fill all DNS server fields on your router with only OpenDNS resolver addresses, or you have Avast's "Secure DNS" enabled, or your ISP is redirecting your DNS traffic to their own or another DNS service.

If you suspect the latter, copy & paste the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic command:

   nslookup -type=txt which.opendns.com.  208.67.220.220

Thanks,

OK there were two boxes for DNS server numbers right?

What is Avast's "Secure DNS" and if it should be disabled - where do I find it?

Thridly - paste it where? In browser I guess but just checking.

I don't know how many DNS server boxes your router has.  If you see two only, then it has two.

I meant Avast Security Suite, an antivirus program.  It has a "Secure DNS" feature which you must disable to make OpenDNS work.

You open a command prompt window and execute the command.  Then you copy & paste the text from there to here.

No, your ISP does not redirect your DNS traffic.  It must be your router which ignores your configuration work.  Best would be to refer to your router's support forum to see what they have to say.

OK - I will try that. Thank you for your time and patience!
