Hey everyone, we've updated a customer's circuit and we tried to update the IP in OpenDNS but, im getting an error message *See Attachment* when trying to use it. The IP/Subnet is matching what's in the router on site. OpenDNS suggested a similar IP, tried anyway but still no luck.

Hello @Jason R,
The error likely stems from IP conflicts or mismatches in OpenDNS registration. Ensure the public IP isn’t already linked to another OpenDNS account. Try releasing/renewing the WAN IP via the router or contact the ISP for a new IP. If the issue persists, reach out to OpenDNS support with the error details and current IP.

i read "network ip is not the base address" not "host ip does not match"
like 10.1.1.0/24 is the base address of host 10.1.1.1/24 in this network

That's correct "Network IP given is not the base address, did you mean *XXX.XXX.XXX.100/30 The static in the router ends with 102/30. I also used Whatsmyip.com to verify the public IP and it does match. I've tried looking up OpenDNS support but I only saw the option to look at the forums or FAQs. Is their another link I could try?

you need to provide more information about
- what is the information that you enter
- what is the respons from opendns about "did you mean....."
what you did specify looks OK, like this set of adresses belong to each other:
Network: 10.1.1.100/30
HostMin: 10.1.1.101
HostMax: 10.1.1.102
Broadcast: 10.1.1.103
>>> The static in the router ends with 102/30. <<<
-> static in the router ? is this a static route ? or the router's public address?
apart from this it can be as simple as cannot be execuded because such entry already exist!
-> you must modify an existing entry, or delete it first and then re-add ?

well, giving out the public IP for this client feels like im setting them up for a DDOS attack, I can DM it to you if thats possible? Its not a 10.1.1.1 or anything like that, its closer to 164.XX.XX.102/30. *its not a LAN/Private IP*

it just offers a "Did you mean "THIS IP?" only changing the last # to 100 from 102. I tried this process again and it did take the .100/30 and doing the verification process. 164.XX.XX.102/30 is set as the WAN in the router, so i'll see what happens.

the routers WAN is set static with the IP I gave above, ending in 102/30.
I've tried adding a NEW network "Add a Network" starting fresh but, I get stuck on the IP part saying its not a base IP and offers a suggested one.
im going to get with my engineer tomorrow and verify the IP's again and possibly find the block of IP's the ISP is using. Appreciate the help.

by the way, the router may have been configured to register itself in opendns ?
07-31-2025 03:21 AM
OpenDNS accounts are only able to register a single /32 IPv4 network. Larger ranges or multiple networks are not currently permitted.
this suggests you cannot use x.x.x.100/30 ? but need to enter x.x.x.102/32 ?

I want to use x.x.x.102/30 but, it says its not a base address and suggests to use the x.x.x.100/30 instead. Still waiting on the verification process on the 100/30 for testing.
