How to block everything but streaming services for a particular timeframe?

I have two kids that have iPhones and I am looking to block everything from a certain time (10pm to 6am) but leave streaming music services open like Spotify or Pandora. Is this possible with OpenDNS?

Time-based settings are unfortunately not available with OpenDNS; however, selective blocking that is the same at all times is available.

"block everything ... but leave streaming music services open like Spotify or Pandora."

This "everything but" is possible with OpenDNS VIP which comes with optional whitelist-only mode.

"block everything from a certain time (10pm to 6am) but leave streaming music services open like Spotify or Pandora."

Time based settings changes are possible in conjunction with a Netgear router with Live Parental Controls enabled.

However "everything" should read "most things", because the time based settings changes take effect on categories of domains only, not on individual domains.

You must decide between the two options, because you cannot use them at the same time.  They are incompatible with each other.

I currently have time based restrictions set up on my NetGear and with Verizon. That's a pretty bad limitation then. My daughter wants to listen to music when going to bed but I don't want her on Instagram, Facebook, or any other thing on her phone while she's supposed to go to bed. I still don't understand why there's no decent iPhone Parental app out there to restrict things based on time. Would seem like something parents would want/need in this day and age of tech.

This scenario should be possible to configure with Netgear LPC.  You block categories Social Networking and Photo Sharing (and probably others) but not Music and Radio during these times.  You still can access domains in this category with an LPC bypass account.

You got it, so use it!

Thanks, I did not know that this was available. My NetGear router is several years old. Do you know if this works with older models?

The best way to see would be to give it a try - http://www.netgear.com/genie for the Genie or some older models (going back about 5 years) only support the Management Utility

Mac LPC Manager: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/parentalcontrols/mac/LPCManager_v1.0.4.dmg

Mac User Utility: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/parentalcontrols/LPCUserUtility.dmg

Windows User Utility and LPC Manager: http://opendns.com/downloads and download the "NETGEARManagementUtility-2.1.6-install" entry
