How to update without the updater

Hi All

 I Have a TP-Link Router I have set the openDNS server into the router, My Router also supports DDNS.I have the NO-IP service as it supports is, I have a DNS-O-Matic account as well,

All the devices that connect are either Apple ( ISO ) or Andriod,

I'm trying to get it so the router starts connects to No-IP and updates record for my new ip then for DNS-O-Matic then to get updated from No-IP the openDNS to get updated from from DNS-O-Matic.

As it is at present the router gets turned on,I then gave to connect to openDN and refresh the network for it to get the new IP from my ISP,

Is what I want to do, achievable ?

This cannot work and does not make sense.

You configure your no-IP and OpenDNS serivces at DNS-O-Matic, and you configure your router to update via DNS-O-Matic only, hostname all.dnsomatic.com.

Sorry probably not clear, My router supports no-ip, I get my wan address from my ISP , but as the router is turned off at night, the ip changes each day, I want to use opendns to filter the web traffic, but opendns needs to be updated with the new record each day, What do I need to do ? Point the router to no-ip or dnsomatic

But also DNS-O-Matic, as you said, right?

Then you don't have an IP address at all during these times, and no internet connection, and no need for content filtering therefore.

As I said, you update via DNS-O-Matic with your router.  DNS-O-Matic updates then your no-IP and your OpenDNS service as soon as the router starts up to send the update to DNS-O-Matic.  You must configure the no-IP and OpenDNS services at DNS-O-Matic, of course.

What's so unclear?

chief-avago's router does not have  DNS-O-Matic update feature. He is trying to update the dynamic IPs via Noip. It is like

Router  >> Noip >> DNS-O-Matic >> OpenDNS . But it is not possible.

Am I right?

I don't know how relevant it is after two years.  Times are changing fast...

Well, the update path
    Router --> DDNS Service --> DNS-O-Matic --> even more DDNS services
is possible in conjunction with https://dnsalloc.uxnr.de/ which changes the picture to
    Router --> DDNS Service --> DNS Allocator --> DNS-O-Matic --> even more DDNS services

But the "even more DDNS services" cannot be OpenDNS, because OpenDNS insists in updates coming from the source IP address it is to be updated with.

That said, your path
    Router  >> Noip >> DNS-O-Matic >> OpenDNS
is not possible because of this special restriction for OpenDNS updates.  It is possible for any other DDNS services supported by DNS-O-Matic.

I understood it. It is not possible with my router's current firmware. So, I will install DD-WRT in my tplink TL-WR740N and then use the path

Router --> DNS-O-Matic --> OpenDNS

my current router has noip in  DDNS but not custom or DNS-O-Matic. I will install custom firmware so that IP updates are directly sent to DNS-O-Matic from the router and then to OpenDNS. I use OpenDNS in my home router and I am trying not to use OpenDNS Updator from my laptop as I am not in home most of the times.

Did you mean to say that you configured the OpenDNS resolver addresses on your router?  That would be something different, unrelated to the update process.

I am using Primary DNS as :208.67.222.222
                     Secondary DNS :208.67.220.220 in my router.

I use dashboard.opendns.com with a 'Household' account to manage the categories to block. I use OpenDNS updater in my Windows laptop. Now, I will install custom firmware in router to send the IP changes to OpenDNS from the router itself without requiring a laptop.

I'm a complete novice here. I have D-Link DSL-2750U and it supports DynDNS. Can my dynamic ip be updated on OpenDNS directly from router. I have OpenDNS updater running on my laptop, but my laptop doesn't stay switched on all the time.

The screenshot of your router's firmware does not indicate that you can use your router to update your address with OpenDNS. You need an option that either explicitly says OpenDNS, DNS-o-Matic (an OpenDNS product), or "custom".

You cannot use DynDNS or any other third party DDNS service. It's possible that a firmware update on your router will provided the necessary options.

If your laptop is the only thing you connect to the internet from your home connection then this won't really matter since the Updater will be running when the laptop is running. If you have other devices however, such as a tablet or a smartphone you'll want a router that can directly update with OpenDNS using one of the options I mentioned above.

As mattwilson9090 outlined, your current router does not support OpenDNS updates of any kind.

Why is this a problem?  Does your ISP change your IP address quite frequently?  Are other users in the same network?

If your laptop is the only device to use OpenDNS, then there is no need to ensure updates all the time, just when it is switched on.  If this laptop is roaming, uninstall the OpenDNS supplied updater and install Marc's Updater instead, else the Updater will attempt to update wherever you are, even in networks you do not own.

I have two networks in my account, and one of them requires updating from time to time.  I have the most current stable dd-wrt on my router, and it seems that only "Custom" qualifies for OpenDNS updating, as OpenDNS or DNS-o-Matic does not appear.  (I have a free dyndns account, but apparently that is not useful.) See attached for that screenshot of Custom. How would I fill in this form, using one of my two OpenDNS networks?
