Linux IP Updater for Dynamic Networks installation instruction is wrong on many levels

I tried to install ddclient from the linux mint repository, which on installation requests input which matches the OpenDNS.com account-configuration script with the exception that the OpenDNS configuration file does not explain what is "use=web, web=myip.dnsomatic.com" and this is important.

The link https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/articles/227987727?flash_digest=a007c5552bd145d8e49d6df06a55aa4b810db02c is incorrect. sbin/chkconfig doesn't exist.

So proper installation is not possible. Please clarify the instructions.

"the OpenDNS configuration file does not explain what is "use=web, web=myip.dnsomatic.com" and this is important."

Why is it important to explain this?  This is the web address where ddclient should obtain your current IP address information from: myip.dnsomatic.com

"sbin/chkconfig doesn't exist   So proper installation is not possible."

Could well be that you installed ddclient into a different directory, e.g. /bin/ddclient or /ddclient/bin or whatever.  So use this path instead.

"Please clarify the instructions."

If you raised a support ticket with OpenDNS and explained what the correct instructions are, they will certainly amend the instructions.

But note that ddclient is in no way an OpenDNS product, but a 3rd party product and is not related to OpenDNS.  And if they change anything with the software, e.g. the installation paths, instructions like the one of OpenDNS will not be correct anymore.  This is how the world is.  Any suggestions for improvement?

What kind of an asinine help reply is this? As a computer user, my choices for OS support are: Mac OS, which I can't afford, Microsoft, which is the great complicator, prevaricator, and obfuscator, and then there is the family of Linux based OS, where support for help is taken as a personal attack, the supporter takes on the attitude of the injured party and responds with a passive aggressive lecture saying that "ddclient" is not really an OpenDNS produced software, which makes me wonder then, why promote, and sanction it? Please grow up.

From your reply, I can safely assume that you have never tried to follow your own example as an ignorant user attempting to install the software based on your instructions. But, if you had taken the trouble to closely examine the help instructions for errors and cull your various replies to other posts relating to "ddclient" into one help page that may create a decent set of instructions.

In any case, the help is relevant only to users who connect a desktop or a laptop directly to the web. It is irrelevant for home users who connect to the web through a router and the OpenDNS numbers are placed in it.

This assumption is clearly wrong.

But I understand that you don't want support and help here from other users.

For reference, at least for Ubuntu, please refer to the following question:

As of 2018, the following answer to the above question should be useful:
