I use opendns to block youtube by adding googlevideo.com, ymtg.l.google.com, and youtube.com into black list in my opendns account. It works for the most part. However, last night I found out that if one watch youtube with smartphone and cast to chromecast, youtube is not been blocked.
What is wrong?
Thanks.

Do your smartphones use OpenDNS at all? Visit http://welcome.opendns.com/ on them. Your smartphones may use the mobile network or an open neighbor's WLAN, not your router were you may have configured OpenDNS.
If you don't use OpenDNS, your dashboard settings are irrelevant.

I confirm that I was using my home broadband with my iphone casting to chromecast because I didn't have sim card on my iphone. I also confirm that opendns failed to block youtube if I cast form iphone to roku.
I think there should be other domains that need to be blocked when one is trying to block youtube when watching from roku or chromwcast with smartphone.

No, I do not think that Chromecast and Roku are in scope here unless they are directly connected to the router and get the original stream. The only interesting component is the stream receiving device, in your case the smartphone.
And yes, it looks like as if more domains need to be blocked. Find the domains in question included here:

I am sorry but it seems that the fact that I was able to youtube on roku was due to a timing issue to the opendns.
It takes 3 minutes to take effect.
When on my other devices I cannot watch youtube, iphone continues to work for an additional 2 minutes.
That's what I discovered so far.
I will report here if there are additional issues.
So, blocking googlevideo.com, ytimg.l.google.com, and youtube.com, but whitelist account.youtube.com
works for me.
