All devices using wireless work fine with OpenDNS when I test. However the desktop which is directly wired into the router does NOT work with OpenDNS.
I even tried configuring DNS manually on the computer just for the heck of it and still a no go. When I run ipconfig /all it shows the OpenDNS servers.
The machine was originally running windows 7 and I reformatted it to Win 8.1 Pro (originally planned anyway) and tested again, still a no go with OpenDNS.
The router seems to work just fine it's a Netgear WNDR3300 , but I flashed dd-wrt on it to test OpenDNS with that. Configured it every way possible with dd-wrt and still no go on the desktop so I reflashed the stock firmware to the latest firmware.
It's just weird that all wireless devices test/work fine with OpenDNS configured on the router, but the desktop plugged directly into the router does not.
###edit### I have flushed DNS on browsers and via command prompt, before and after reformat. This happens in all browsers; Chrome, IE, Opera, Firefox, Maxthon, etc.
Tried a few commands below:
Command 1: nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com
Output: Server: resolver2.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.220.220
*** resolver2.opendns.com can't find debug.opendns.com: Non-existent domain
Command 2: nslookup -type=txt which.opendns.com. 208.67.220.220
Output:
Server: resolver2.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.220.220
Non-authoritative answer:
which.opendns.com text =
"I am not an OpenDNS resolver."
opendns.com nameserver = auth1.opendns.com
opendns.com nameserver = auth2.opendns.com
opendns.com nameserver = auth3.opendns.com
auth1.opendns.com internet address = 208.69.39.2
auth2.opendns.com internet address = 67.215.92.66
auth3.opendns.com internet address = 208.69.39.2
(root) ??? unknown type 41 ???
Command 3:nslookup www.facebook.com
Output:
Server: resolver2.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.220.220
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: star.c10r.facebook.com
Addresses: 2a03:2880:f01f:2:face:b00c:0:2
179.60.192.3
Aliases: www.facebook.com
Anybody have any ideas? I've set up several networks to use OpenDNS and this is the only time I've had any trouble :(

Ha this can be disregarded. Turns out Avast now has "Secure DNS" which interferes with OpenDNS. Just figured it out and OpenDNS is working wonderfully.
