OpenDNS Updater

Hi, I'm running the updater application and it is detecting when the router gets a new ip from the ISP and lists the new ip address on the OpenDNS dashboard but does not actually update or swap in the new ip address, it merely has it listed below the old ip address and I manually have to make the swap by clicking on the icon to the right of the ip addresses. Is it possible for the application to update the ip address automatically and avoid the need for the manual swap by clicking the icon?

Thanks.

Disable the option “Send DNS-O-Matic updates” unless you really want to use DNS-O-Matic.

Further, the admin who has installed the app must be logged in on this computer.

But I do want to use dynamic update capability, just wish it would actually update the ip as opposed to requiring manual intervention to do so for the last step in the process. The device running the dynamic updater app does have admin privileges.

I do not really understand everything what you are saying here, so trying to interpret it.

"But I do want to use dynamic update capability"

Was this related to "Disable the option “Send DNS-O-Matic updates” unless you really want to use DNS-O-Matic."?  You must disable this option if you want to update only OpenDNS!  This does not impact your "dynamic update capability".

"The device running the dynamic updater app does have admin privileges."

Well, the admin privileges of the device don't matter.  An admin must have installed the app, and this is the one having admin privileges to run the app and must be logged on to make the app work.  If the latter is not possible in your environment, there is an easy solution as follows:

Uninstall this app and install Marc's Updater instead.  This runs as Windows service in the background and does not require someone being logged on, but the computer must still run, of course.

If you still insist in using the official Updater, you can navigate to "%APPDATA%\OpenDNS Updater" to have a look into the log to find out why it does not update.  Open the log with WordPad, not with NotePad, because it is in Linux format.

Also, I do not want to discuss my instructions forth and back.  Simply follow them without questioning them.  If they do not help, we still can discuss the issue further.
