OpenDNS with mail.arcor.de

Hello,

I have 3 children and we want to use the family shield to save them for adult content. But we have are by the german provider Arcor (now Vodafone). We was clients since over 10 years and because of that we have an Arcor E-Mail-Adress from our provider. To send mails we need to use the smtp host mail.arcor.de - but OpenDNS block this address. Don't know why because this is not a phishing address, it is an Internet and telephone provider here in Germany.

Can I do something to unblock this address to use OpenDNS and keep our E-Mail Addresses? I am sure there is a way, please help me to find it.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Verena

Weird, the domain mail.arcor.de is being blocked as a phishing site, obviously a false positive.  I suggest you open a support ticket to get the flag removed.

As an immediate measure, simply add mail.arcor.de and smtp.vodafonemail.xion.oxcs.net to your "never block" list at the dashboard.  If you don't use the dashboard, e.g. because you use OpenDNS FamilyShield, add the following entry to the local hosts file on the devices where you use Arcor mail:

153.92.65.114 mail.arcor.de smtp.vodafonemail.xion.oxcs.net

Or configure the IP address 153.92.65.114 instead of the hostname mail.arcor.de in your mail client.

These two solutions are thought as a temporary workaround only, because it will break if Vodafone change the IP address of this service.

Edit: I have raised support ticket #321085 to get this investigated.

Hello rotblitz,

thanks very much for your help, it seems to work.

First I had used the Family Shield but now I use the OpenDNS Home. I think it works good to to avoid the false content for my children. With the whitelisted mail.arcor.de I can send mails again.

But I will open a ticket too to unblock arcor.de for other people who want to use the Family Shield.

Best regards,

Verena

No need to raise a ticket as I've done it in the meantime.

Hi,

We have de-listed the domain from our malware database since it was a false positive, so it should be accessible on your network within the next 30 to 60 minutes.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may caused!
