Hi,

Can I connect a SXGBIC (WS-G5484 or WS-G5486) to a fibre nic which is located into a server (win2008).

If its possible, what specifications must the NIC have.

Thanks in advance.

Beano

As long as the two end points use the same protocols and transceiver specifications, you can interconnect them.  Make sure the server NIC is 1000Base-SX compatible (if using WS-G5484) or 1000Base-LX compatible (if using the WS-G5486).

Thanks Tom,

Can you help me what kind of protocols and specifications I have to look for ?

rgs,

Beano

Do you have a link to information regarding the Server NIC?

Hi,

I don't have one.

Example, I found a one HP Storageworks with Partnummer 250176-001 Is it possible to connect this ?

Specs

Speed = 2048 Mbps
64-bit PCI

Chipset Emulex FCA2101 (Emulex LightPulse Fibre Channel SCSI)

I can find which specs I have to look for.

You need a NIC that supports Gigabit Ethernet, IEEE 802.3z standard, to interconnect with the Cisco Transceiver part numbers you outlined in your original posting.
