Problem with 10Gbase-SR // 6509

Hello Guys,

We have a trunk link flaps, I figure it out that it could be X2-10GB-SR problem. The issue resolved by it self but how few questions to ask if any body can answer it will be great.

#sh int tenGigabitEthernet 1/5/5 transceiver

                                         Optical   Optical

Temperature  Voltage  Current   Tx Power  Rx Power

Port        (Celsius)    (Volts)  (mA)      (dBm)     (dBm)

----------  -----------  -------  --------  --------  --------

Te1/5/5       24.0        N/A       7.8 --   -1.8      -2.0

What is the Optical Current level ? why it has "--" sign, let me know if you need anything else .

Thanks

The "--" indicates a low current alarm. If you query using the "detail" keyword at the end you will see the threshold levels for warnings and alarms.

its not showing anything

           Temperature         Threshold   Threshold  Threshold  Threshold

Port       (Celsius)          (Celsius)   (Celsius)  (Celsius)  (Celsius)

Hmm for some reason your switch isn't reporting the full set of data. It might be either a minor incompatibility or a bug.

Can you share what module type the transceiver is in and the IOS level you are running? Using that, we can verify compatibility in the "10-Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver Compatibility Matrix".

If that checks out, I would next try a bug search and/or TAC case.

Hi Taimoor,

Low power, as indicated by "--" means that the minimum threshold signal travelling has not met and that is why the SFP is sending you an alarm.

As in your case there are link flaps as well, it clearly indicates that the signal strength is getting hampered.

There are bugs for low power alarms however it cannot cause link to loose connectivity.

I think link flaps were due to some other reason and there are a lot of possibilities for it which includes the status of device connected on the other end as well.

As right now the things are fine and issue got resolved you can monitor the site and check the other end of link as well.
