GIG E Help

I have a slight problem that I need some help on. We just ordered a GIG E connection from our bldg to our Co-Lo facility. The problem we are having is that when it was ordered by the engineer in charge of the project he thought that he could terminate it on a 3845 router. Well we were told by one of our Cisco SE's that in fact it will not work. So I am here trying to figure out what GBIC module we can use on our existing equipment to get this GIG E connection to work. Well at bldg "A" side we are going to use our new 3750 switches - model number WS-C3750-48PS-S. We have already purched the correct GBIC (LX/LH) for this side. I need to know if any of the equipment we have will accecpt a GIG E Gbic module.

Equipment we have:

CAT4506 w/ SUP IV (WS-X45-15) - NO MODULES AVAIL.

***Only have the 2 GBIC on the SUP Engine to use ****

couple 7206 routers

couple 7204 routers

If nothing will work on our existing equipment please let me know what you would recommend. I know that I could use another 3750 switch with layer 3 capabilities. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brandon

Hi,

3845 does not support Gbic, but SFP. To buy SFP is cheaper thaen another 3750 switch. Question is about traffic, I am not sure that on GigE port, 3845 is wire speed

Yes, you can use your CAT4506 with Sup IV to terminate the WAN link. Just plug in GBIC LX/LH (Product code: WS-G5486) and configure an L3 interface on the GigE.

Config:

interface gig1/1

no switchport

ip address 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.0

I guess you have the standard image. so you can use static routing or RIP to route your WAN network.
