Is 1000base-SX backward compatible with 10base-FL equipment?

Is 1000base-SX backward compatible with 10base-FL equipment? I know it is directly compatible with 100base-SX, and they use the same wavelength (850nm).

I would say 99.99% no, as they are a different speed and there is no way to configure the speed.

I'll add my 0.01% and make it 100% no.

 

Also 1000Base-SX and 100Base-SX are not compatible despite sometimes using the same nominal wavelength.

 

A transceiver supporting a given mode is generally hard coded for that speed. Cisco does have one transceiver that has dual transmit speeds but all the rest are one speed only.
