What did you use for the prep? I failed it once. I am looking for reference material that covers DPT troubleshooting from screenshots, DWDM management etc.

Hello,

The exam was tough but passable. I will try to give elaborate list of the material I used for preparation. I hope this helps but if you have any further questions, feel free to contact me.

1) Cisco Self-Study: Building Cisco Metro Optical Networks - Chapter 1 - 8

http://ciscopress.com/title/1587050706

(if u join this ciscopress.com, they give 25% discount on all titles.)

2) DWDM Network Designs and Engineering Solutions - Chapter 1 - 4

http://ciscopress.com/title/1587050749

3) Cisco ONS 15454 Procedure Guide, Release 4.6 -

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/ong/15400/r46docs/r46proce/index.htm

(The above link is for a html page. In this, the screenshots of CTC are not clear, so just download the pdf of this document and then you can magnify to make it clear)

4) Cisco ONS 15454 Reference Manual, Release 4.6

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/ong/15400/r46docs/r46refrn/index.htm

5) For 15216 - OADM, DCU, Filter refer to this page:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/ong/15216/index.htm

Just go through these pages and note down important numbers and concepts etc.

6) For few practice questions and some small tutorials, check www.iec.org

http://www.iec.org/online/tutorials/categories/by_OPT_tutorial_ascending.html

7) There is one recommended online training which is free, you might want to go through that once (Explaining Optical Transmission (EOT) Available at no charge through the Cisco Learning Connection )

In Book 1, there are lot of typos, so be careful about that. Also the screenshots are from older version of CTC but the concepts are same.

I found another document on Cisco.com that I found very useful which contains clear screenshots and concise explanation of important concepts, for which I cant find the link right now. If you want that file, email me.

Finally, I strongly suggest you to stick to the syllabus. In syllabus they donot mention about DPT anywhere. (Though I read all the concepts by reading book 1.

One more resource I used, just to see what do they teach in those hands-on training for ONS 15454 and 15216 provisioning was this website. They provide training for this exam. I checked this just to see what all labs they conduct or stress in this class

http://www.globalknowledge.com/training/certification_listing.asp?PageID=12&certid=397&country=United+States&translation=English

Thats all I can think of.....right now.

FINALLY, I have a request to you guys who are already into this industry/ field. Since, I am recent graduate and looking for job, what industry or company should I target/contact for with this certification. I have strong communications background (BSEE, MIS, MSEE) and one year experience in communication related technologies. So, if any of you could guide me or suggest (refer) some helpful contacts/ companies, I would greatly appreciate.

Good Luck and let me know if you need any further help

Regards,

Amit
