Hello
I need to connect a surveillance camera that is 2000 ft away from my router, should I use an optical network?, or how can i do it? I´m new to optical networking!

2000 feet is a long way... I am not sure what other options you have.
You have not indicated what network interface is available on the camera or
router.
In many cases, the camera will have a 10 or 100base-t interface. Using a
media converter at each end, you can transition from the 10/100Mb
electrical connection to an optical interface that will work over multimode
fiber to 6000 ft. There are many different media converter manufactures.
If your camera and router support 100Mb optical interfaces, then a
100base-fx optical transceiver (sfp / gbic) in each device will provide the
interfaces to connect over 2000 ft of multimode fiber.
Take a look at the following website for the basics of fiber optics.

Because my router and camera are both Ethernet 10/100 base-t, I guess is a good choice to use media converters as you mentioned, the problem now is to energize both the media converter and the camera 2000 feet away, I´ll have to send also electricity all the way with the fiber on a cooper cable and see if I still have enough energy to turn them on.
