Capture a multicast video stream using IP/TV

We are testing a Polycom FX unit which provides a multicast stream. We would like to capture and record this stream using a IP/TV server&host. Can this be done? Thanks

It all depends on the output. Some mpg formats, Windows media, and .asf files can’t be recorded to RTP because of licensing issues. What did your Cisco office have to say? You might also want to ask Polycom what capture options are available.

You can do it with A vcon system using Interactive Multicast and Meeting Point 4.01 (operative system for vcon). http://www.vcon.com

VBrick appliances multicast both RTP streams to the IP/TV client AND simultaneous MPEG system stream which can be viewed, captured, edited, rebroadcast, etc. Capturing RTP, with independent audio and video, typically requires secondary processing to build a system stream for editing. http://www.vbrick.com

The Polycom FX does have the ability to be assigned to IPTV content manager and the streams sent to IPTV viewers or IPTV server for record purposes. H.261 must be selected for this to work as this is the only common codec.

If you would like to use some other codec, the analog output of any Polycom (or any VC system for that matter) can be plugged into the capture card of an IPTV broadcast server, reencoded and streamed. Note that unencoding then reencoding is bound to create at least some video quality degradation no matter what codecs are chosen.
