My customer is running Unity Unified Messaging with a 200 user license. They are running Exchange on a separate server. Only about 50 of the users need Unified Messaging. The other 150 only need Voice Mail. Does the customer need to have Exchange Client Access Licenses (CAL) for all 200 users, or can he purchase only 50 CALs? Would this cause a problem?

The CAL license is between you and Microsoft - if you're not using Outlook or another desktop client to get at your messages for those 150 users then you shouldn't need CALs for them. If they're only getting at their messages via the phone interface then you should be OK according to the license file as I've read it (though I'm not a lawyer).

Also make sure that the copy of Exchange they are running is not the copy that Cisco ships with Unity. The copy we ship is only for Unity to access, not to be used as the company email server.
