I have IP Phone 7970 connected to a 3560 switch IOS c3560-i5-mz.121-19.EA1d.
The switch port power is auto. The show command indicates class 3, and 6.2w.
The phone gets half brightness.
How can I get full power to the 7970?
"To operate in full-power mode, the Cisco IP Phone 7970 requires a Cisco-approved external power supply"
Hi, Thanks for the reply. I heard that there is a way
to make the switch to deliver more power to the 7970
by 802.3af negotiation by configuring the switch.
Do you know how ?
Thats correct, CDP does not yet have the capability to negotiate the full-power mode.
You should be able to get Full Brightness if IP Phone is drawing Full Power (10.25W).
IEEE 802.3af in-line power from a Cisco switch on which the power negotiation feature is enabled
Cisco prestandard PoE from a Cisco Switch that supports 15.4 W in-line power per port, and on which the power negotiation feature is enabled
This links might help you to configure the switch ports:
The Cisco Catalyst 3560 24-port PoE configurations can support 24 simultaneous full-powered PoE ports at 15.4W for maximum powered-device support. Taking advantage of Cisco Catalyst Intelligent Power Management, the 48-port PoE configurations can deliver the necessary power to support 24 ports at 15.4W, 48 ports at 7.7W, or any combination in between. Maximum power availability for a converged voice and data network is attainable when a Cisco Catalyst 3560 switch is combined with the Cisco RPS 675 Redundant Power System for transparent
protection against internal power supply failures and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system to safeguard against power outages
Afaik the 7970 is a class 3 device.
