I have installed unity 3.1(3), integrating that to an existing exchange 2000 server. I have installed all the listed patch and the hotfix. I am using sql 2000 server as the ports are more than 32. The problem i am facing is when i hit the pilot voice mail number, I am able to hear the unity welcome greeting. But unity is not playing any voice mail which is in the mailbox. I am able to ring the phone from the unity server. I am able to send and receive mails (not voice mails) via outlook, that narrow downs that my exchange is working fine.

Senthil Natarajan
Network Engineer
NEC BNS
720 Bay road, Suite 100
Redwood city, CA 94063
Phone: 650-216-3516
Does Unity take messages from outside callers? Can you sign in to the mailbox OK or are you told that the Exchange server is down? Are you getting any errors in the event log?

All messages from non-Unity subscribers (outside callers) will pass through the UMR before they are delivered to Exchange. You want to check in that folder to see if messages are stacking up. It is located at \commserver\UnityMTA. From the UMR, Unity will create message in the out box of the Unity_Servername mailbox via MAPI which Exchange immediately send to the addressed party.

Messages from other Unity subscribers don't go through the UMR. Unity creates a message on behalf of the subscriber in the out box of their Exchange mailbox via MAPI which Exchange immediately sends to the addressed party.

A good trouble shooting step would be to see if you can send subscriber to subscriber messages OK, outside callers to subscriber, or not at all.
