Re-Flashing Cisco 4224 Router/Switch

Anyone have any experience with reflashing a Catalyst 4224. A software upgrade went bad, and the ethernet ports no longer work, not even in rommon mode. Can you do it through a serial cable with xmodem? The regular xmodem command doesn't work.
