I would like to configure T.37 Off Ramp faxing using a VG200 gateway. I have uploaded the tcl files for both On Ramp and Off Ramp to the gateway and have managed to get On Ramp working okay.I have a document on how to configure the gateway, so am okay with this part:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1839/products_feature_guide_chapter09186a00800b5dcf.html

Can someone please advise me on how i get the e-mailed fax to actually get to the gateway in the first place. Is there a special Fax Client Software required?

Many thanks in advance

The router itself is an SMTP server, so you would need to make sure that your client is pointing to it for oubound smtp traffic, or your regular SMTP server is configured to route SMTP traffic destined to that particular email address to the gateway.

Thanks for the response.

Do you have any idea whether we can use the Windows XP fax utility and if so, what drivers are needed?

thanks

I belive the fax utility is looking for a local modem to place a fax call. That's different that T.37. With T37 the gateway is just looking for email-attached fax messages. To use something like the XP fax utility you'd probably need a modem in the PC attached to an FXS port on the router so it can place a call. But this wouldn't involve T.37 at all.

I'm pretty sure that the fax service in XP can only use local modems. If it is in an enterprise enviroment e.g. using MS exchange, you can just add an SMTP connector to the local routing group, then specify in the address space something like fax.company.com, and use the router as a smart host.

This will mean that any emails they send to fax=9012345678@fax.company.com, will be sent to the router which will forward it to fax number 9012345678.

You can also download an outlook form which makes it a lot prettier for the user as they just enter the fax number, and the form creates the correct smtp rcpt field for the email.
