TAPI Hangup

I am having a problem with the tapi or tsp component. Somehow the system hangs and affects access to the main voicemail port. When this happens the Unity system doesn't answer and calls just ring and ring. However if you dial the other voiceports individually they answer.

To resolve this we have to stop unity, stop the activevoice services. Try and stop the telephony service which always fails, so we have to kill the process that was being used by the tapi services. Once we do this we can restart the telephony and the activevoice services. Then unity will start back successfully and answers when the user doesn't pick up.

Any ideas as to what is causing this. This is a windows 2k server running exchange 5.5 and active voice 2.4.

This is happening to us at least once a week.

I’m not sure what you mean by the “main voice mail port”? Do you mean you have a hunt group set up and the first port in the hunt group fails to answer but the other ports answer OK?

What voice boards/interface are you using? Dialogic?

One thing that’s caused Dialgoic’s TAPI driver some problems in the past is having dialouts and incoming calls banging away on the same port. There were some timing issues that caused them fits and it would essentially never put the port back into service. If you have some ports set for dialout (i.e. analog lamps, TRAP connections, pager and message delivery dialouts), try to move those to the end of the hunt group (assuming it’s a “first available” hunt scheme) which will minimize the time outbound calls are being made on a port at the same time an inbound call is being answered.

That aside, if it’s the Dialogic TAPI driver is getting wedged, we’d want you to turn on some diagnostics for their driver and get that information to us to pass on to their support team. Your best bet right now is to call our support folks and get that ball rolling.
