The problem is with unity version 3.1 exchange 2000 on same box when subscribers are deleted from within unity administrator their mailboxes are still in active directory.
Whats the best method to rectify this situation.
So that all information is removed cleanly.

Well Unity was originally designed only to be a unified messaging product. It was never designed to be a voice messaging only product which is why we require AD and Exchange for voicemail only configurations in the first place. Active Voice had Repartee for customers that wanted voicemail only.
In unified messaging land customers would be very upset if Unity were to delete a user account by mistake. For this reason we never added the option so that customers would never blame Unity for unexplained account deletions.
In voicemail only land I agree that it doesnt make sense to not delete all reference of the account but that isnt the way that things have been implemented.
In time you will see this functionality in the product but for now you need to delete from AD if you want a one step process.
You are correct about the deletion process.

Unity doesn't delete the mailbox or the AD account. It just removes it properties. What you want to do is delete the account from AD Users and Computer. Unity will see that the account is deleted and remove it from its database.
Hope this helps...

Hi Keith,
So still go into Unity system admin, delete subscriber their then go to AD users and computers and delete account their.
So its a 2 step rpocess to rid a UNITY subscriber...
Correct ?
thanks

No this is a single step process. Delete the subscriber from AD Users & Computers and then Unity will automatically delete the subscriber from its database next time it synchs with the directory. Directory synchs occur every 2 minutes.
Thanks,
Keith

Thanks Keith,
Couple quick queries for you.
What is the purpose of using the delete button in Unity admin to remove the properties when what we want to actually achieve is delete the subscriber ?
Why have the delete subscriber button in Unity admin when we can Just delete AD user account and Unity will do the washing uuuPPP..
From what you are saying when unity discovers that their is no AD user for a particular subscriber it will then go in to SQL and remove all related records is this correct ?
Thankyou Allan

Hi Keith,
Thanks for all you previous posts very prompt response.
I was just reading an over view of subscriber accounts. It states that the subscriber should be deleted in Unity admin before exchange ...
Just wondering what your thoughts are here. I did delete a user through AD yesterday it seemed fine though didnt check the call handler associated with subscriber.
Just wondering you thoughts on the procedure as we disscussed the other method which seems fine ?.

About Deleting Subscriber Accounts
When a subscriber leaves the organization or otherwise no longer needs a Cisco Unity account, delete the account in the Cisco Unity Administrator. Deleting the Cisco Unity account does not delete the Windows and Exchange mailbox for that subscriber. These must be deleted separately, as appropriate, by someone with the necessary Windows administrator rights, after the subscriber account is deleted in the Cisco Unity Administrator.
It is important that you delete the subscriber in the Cisco Unity Administrator before you delete associated accounts in Exchange and Windows, so that Cisco Unity can perform the following tasks:
Delete the subscriber from other Cisco Unity accounts, handlers, or call routing rules that send calls to the subscriber.
Prompt you to reassign to another subscriber any call handlers that the subscriber owned or was the message recipient of.
Prompt you to reassign to another subscriber any public distribution lists that the subscriber owned, and to remove the subscriber from all public distribution lists.
If you do not delete the account from within the Cisco Unity Administrator, none of this additional cleanup happens. Instead, the primary call handler remains associated with the deleted subscriber account and the extension assigned to the subscriber is not available for reuse. Additionally, any call handlers or subscriber accounts set up to transfer calls to the deleted account will continue to do so.
To identify call handlers that are associated with improperly deleted accounts, run the Unresolved References report. Then you can fix any "stranded" call handlers that you find by running the SysCheck utility. See the "Unresolved References Report" section for more information.
