Hello,
I've problems installing Untiy 4.0 when trying to update the AD Schema.
Scenario:
Existing Exchange 2K Site (native mode, cluster active/active). We had Unity 3 installed before which ran fine. Now Unity 4 Installation fails in ConfigurationAssistantSetup step 3 - configure your mailbox store with error: Update your Schema for Unity
So I tried to run ADSchemaSetup again from Unity 4.0 DVD which fails as follows:
Connecting to "GVDC2"
Logging in as current user using SSPI
Importing directory from file "X:\Schema\LdifScripts\avdirmonex2k.ldf"
Loading entries
1: CN=ms-Exch-Recorded-Name,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=Gong-Intern,DC=de
Entry DN: CN=ms-Exch-Recorded-Name,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=Gong-Intern,DC=de
change: add
Attribute 0) adminDescription:ms-Exch-Recorded-Name
Attribute 1) adminDisplayName:ms-Exch-Recorded-Name
Attribute 2) attributeID:1.2.840.113556.1.4.7000.102.17016
Attribute 3) attributeSyntax:2.5.5.12
Attribute 4) isMemberOfPartialAttributeSet:TRUE
Attribute 5) isSingleValued:FALSE
Attribute 6) lDAPDisplayName:msExchRecordedName
Attribute 7) name:ms-Exch-Recorded-Name
Attribute 8) oMSyntax:64
Attribute 9) objectCategory:CN=Attribute-Schema,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=Gong-Intern,DC=de
Attribute 10) objectClass:attributeSchema
Attribute 11) searchFlags:0
Attribute 12) partialAttributeSet:TRUE
Add error on line 37: Referral
The server side error is "A referral was returned from the server."
0 entries modified successfully.
An error has occurred in the program
Does anybody know what this may be? Further it might be interesting if the update which Unity 3 did to Schema may be "uninstalled".
Thanks
Oliver

Hi Oliver,
What account are you logging on with when attempting to update the schema? You need to make sure that you're logged on with an account that has permissions to update schema. Look at the Schema Admins group in AD Users & Computers and see if the account you're using is in there. If you know which account was originally used to extend the schema for Unity 3.1, or if you know what account was used to install Exchange, one of those should work.

Thanks for help John. The account got the right permissions. Even installing the 'old' Unity 3 ADSchemaSetup with same account does work fine.
Regards
Oliver
