VoIP in Hospitals

I need pros and cons concerning implementing VoIP instead of trad. PBX into our enviroment.

Where can I find a recent VoIP implementation in Hospital enviroment ?

We are running a gigabit Ethernet backbone with Cisco equipment.

One of the biggest advantages is the cost savings of keeping calls off the PSTN as much as possible. Also, voice is now just another application on top of your network. No longer will you have to have two physical networks. The voice application can tie into calendars, directories, and any number of upcoming applications.

A con would be resilence. In a hospital it really is life and death. Not sure how resilient hospital networks normally are but if you put voice over the LAN you're going to have to make sure that even within each room or area there are no single points of failure.

How resilient is you're existing PBX would be a good starting point. As long as you can match or improve on that you should be fine.
