Cisco DCNM License Question

Hi

recently we have installed an new DCNM 10.4.2 ova to manage a bunch (ca. 50) of Nexus 9396PX switches.

The CCO documentation seems to me not accurate regarding license, as they typically mention DCNM-SAN etc.

The main purpose of this DCNM is to have a Nexus switch inventory and Nexus switch configuration backup/archive. We dont use VXLAN, no Fabricpath, no POAP. These switches are only L2 switches with some vpc.

By default, the DCNM comes with a free license for 500 switches. This trial license seems to cover all function, including switch backup/archiving and performance monitoring, like CPU, temperature, memory etc...What happens after these 30 days?

It seems I require a permanent license after these 30 days. Correct?

Is this permanent license a 0$ item? Which feature are covered with this license?

In case we we would enable "performance monitoring", would I need to buy a special license?

thank you

Best Regards Oliver

Correct an Advanced Feature Trial License exists on the server after the initial installation.

So for the 9300 series that license would be:

DCNM-LAN-N93-K9= DCNM for LAN Advanced Edt. for Nexus 9300 switches.

This is a good links that describes the different versions.

Hi Rick

your have added a dead link.

thank you

Oliver

That is so weird. If you do a google search it comes up with the same link, but as you found out it's dead.

This one is working.

Thank you Rick

indeed the pdf helps. However a table 3 with the supported features with the 0$ license/base versus the features supported with the adv. License for LAN DCNM instead DCNM SAN would be helpfull.

Do you know if such a doc exist?

cheers Oliver

Hi Rick

thank you. Sorry to bother you again...The table for the LAN DCNM does not include the information if Nexus switch backup/archiving and performance monitoring (cpu, memory, link utilization, temperatur and etc.) requires an adv. License or not...

thank you in advance

Oliver

DCNM has a limited amount of environmental statistics that include with the Base License:

Module Temperature can also be used for 1RU switch statictics
Template Center ( this is for config backup)
Environmental (HwRes Utilization with TCAM statistics)

This tool is really for configuration of Nexus devices. DCNM is used heavily on the SAN side for fabric wide configurations.

If you only have LAN configurations I would like at prime instead.

Cisco Prime is probably a better fit as it fits all your needs.

A lot of Nexus 9300 are not even on latest Prime 3.8 Device support list (i.e. N9K-C93180YC-EX).
