Impact of removing rate-limit from SPAN session on Nexus 7710

My customer has configured rate-limit on SPAN. We are having Nexus 7710 with SUP2E and F3 cards(N77-F324FQ-25).

Due to rate limit, we observed packet drops on SPAN session.

TAC engineer advised to remove rate-limit. After removing rate-limit auto from SPAN session, packet drops are not seen.

Please note, when we applied rate-limit to 70 % on SPAN session, even though traffic was only 50 Mb on 10Gig link, we found packet drops.

But, now customer is concerned that, if SPAN traffic increases, having no rate-limit applied will it impact production traffic or not.

My customer is having Nexus 7710 with F3 cards. SPAN session is configured on N7710 with destination being on F3 Line Cards.

Thanks,

Pruthvi

Hello Pruthvirajsinh,

Impact of removing rate-limit from SPAN session on Nexus 7710
If the SPAN source traffic exceeds the capacity of the SPAN destination, packet drops might occur on the SPAN source interfaces , moreover SPAN directs the SPAN session traffic to the destination port , so by removing rate-limit auto from SPAN session i believe there would hardly be any impact.
