Hi

seeking for design assistance and moving to the latest available hardware to cope with business growth. New design should Cover redundancy, growth, security and simplifying Management.

our current infrastructure comprises of 6506 as core + distribution, 2960 as the access layer,  WAN Block / Internet Block / Server Block / Management Block. In all there is 50 National sites connected via MPLS, 30 International sites connection via VPN. core application are centralized

will appreicate some ideas to move ahead

cheers

also it is better to have a separate distribution for the users and servers/DC for many reasons security, fault isolation, future growth and more specialized blocks

Hi there

can you provide more details about your current network topology to provide you with an accurate suggestion

in anyway you can have a look at the below link which can help you in your design concepts

https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-27296

generally speaking, you may upgrade your 65K to 65K-E with sup2t and new 10/40Gb line cards for increased capacity combined with VSS capability

use Cisco nexus in your data center block for many new features designed for modern data centers with high bandwidth capacity, virtualization support and simplified management

for your WAN edge you may consider cisco ISR G2 routers or ASR 1000 with DMVPN over the inernet for the international sites for ease of managment and increased scalability

hope this help

Hi Marwan

thank you for replying. Not sure how much the existing setup will help as we plan to move all existing equipement to prepare a DR site. the plan is to purchase everything new

Cisco still promotes 6500 series, where does 6500 fits when we compare it with Nexus7K / 5K  / 2K

In my scenario users / datacenter / servers are in the same premises do we require a distribution block

consider having WAN / Internet / Access-switches / Management / Wireless / Server block  ;

on which "K" the above blocks will be connected  - i am  a bit confused on this.

( K - 7K or 5K or 2K )

what are designing

Data center or campus LAN with a DC ?

in general Cisco 65K with SUP2T is very good option for core/distribution of a campus where nexus 7K for large DC is the choice for the core/distribution of a DC and 5K with L3 can be used a access/distribution for small DC 2K in both cases can be used to expand the access ports density for ToR of needed

if your network is big you can use the modular campus design described in the link i provided above where your Internet and WAN can be placed in one block with aggregation switch and routers for connectivity

managment can be placed in the DC or services block

if your network is small you can use collapsed design where you can combine multiple blocks into one using a pair of 65K or 45K switches

also VSS is very important capability you need to consider if your going to use 65K in your design

also it is better to have a separate distribution for the users and servers/DC for many reasons security, fault isolation, future growth and more specialized blocks
