Hi,

Any expert had detailed info about N7K-M108X2-12L (M1) vs N7K-F248XP-25 (F2)?

Only some info from release note

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/6_x/nx-os/release/notes/60_nx-os_release_note.html

Integrating F2-Series Modules Into a Cisco Nexus 7000 Series System

The Cisco Nexus 7000 48-port 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ I/O module (F2-Series) module is a low-latency, high-performance, high-density module that offers most Layer 2 and Layer 3 functions of Cisco NX-OS software. When integrating the F2-Series module into a Cisco Nexus 7000 Series system, observe the following guidelines:

An F2-Series module requires its own F2-Series module VDC. This VDC is restricted to the F2-Series module; M1 and F1 ports cannot be in the F2-Series module VDC. The default VDC can also be configured as an F2-Series module VDC.

If you boot up an unconfigured Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switch that contains only F2-Series modules, then the default VDC is automatically configured as an F2-Series module VDC.

Some software features are not available on the F2-Series module in Cisco NX-OS Release 6.0(1). These include ACL Capture, ERSPAN, FCoE, GRE tunnels, LISP, MACSEC, MPLS, Netflow, online diagnostics, OTV, PIM-Bidir, and certain counters. Many of these features will be supported in future software releases; however, the F2-Series hardware does not support LISP, MPLS, and OTV, so these features will remain unavailable on the F2-Series module.

What is the routing table size and other limitations for F2 module in design consideration?

Thanks in advance!

Hello

Here is official data sheet for F2 module which contains hardware table sizes and other parameters.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9402/data_sheet_c78-685394.html

Data sheet for M1 module:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9402/data_sheet_c78-574915.html

And here is list of available data-sheets for N7K platform:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9402/products_data_sheets_list.html

As for design - in each particular case recomendations will be different since there are many factors that will have an influence on maximum supported values.

In F2 datasheet,

IPv4 entries

• 32,768

IPv6 entries

• 16,384

Does it mean "entries" = "routes"???

But in M1 datasheet, it used "roiutes".

Item

Non-XL ModeXL Mode
IPv4 routes128KUp to 1M*
IPv6 routes64KUp to 350K*

Yes. Entries means routes.

F2 has less capacity since initialy it's designed as wire-speed switching module.

Hi, is it true that if you have M1 and F2 cards (both is seperate VDCs), the layer-3 functionality on the F2 gets disabled?

In the case of the F2e, yes.  It says so in the Release Notes.
