NX-OS versus IOS

Hi,

Maybe a bit of a strange question, we have 2 x 5k's and each of those has 2 x 2248's attached, we running NX-OS and have a layer 3 daughter card's installed.

We have terminated out WAN links into the 5k's but find we cannot do vlan tagging or QOS.

Would we be better off upgrading to IOS ?, is this even possible ? (We have several UCS chassis's hung off the 5ks as well).

Are they are documents that show what the differences are between the two operating systems ?

Regards

Scott

Hi Scott,

The Cisco Nexus platforms only run Cisco NX-OS so you can not change them to Cisco IOS.

If you want an overview of NX-OS and some of the differences between it and IOS, then the Cisco NX-OS/IOS Configuration Fundamentals Comparisonpage on the Cisco DocWiki page is a good place to start.

The Nexus 5000 series switches definitely do VLAN tagging and QoS, but depending upon what you're trying to do, the Nexus platform may not be the best choice to terminate the WAN edge.
