To be honest, over the years I've rarely dealt with Cisco's physical packaging, in fact, I rarely even get to see the device, physically. (Even when I do initial device configuration, via "console", the connection is almost always remote.) So, it's difficult for me to advise on what's included with the device, or its packaging, to indicate it's licensing.
Some Cisco devices, like their small switches, have different part number suffixes for basic and advanced feature licensing, but I don't know whether this appears on routine packaging.
Most vendors including a packing list, and often that will mention any additional licensing. The reason I note additional, many devices come with a basic license, as part of the hardware license, but additional license features usually have their own part numbers and so appear in the packing list. Sometimes there will be information included for installing or upgrading the device's feature set when you configure it.
So, in answer to your questions, the information you seek might be very "visible", but it might not too. It's likely different Cisco products will have different indications.
Your best bet might be the original packing list.
For specific questions, on particular products, Cisco sales support might be able to help.
