I am looking for a way to use two Cisco 1600 series routers with WAN ISDN cards as one dual ethernet router by connecting the two on their serial ports with a null modem cable
is this possible and will it work with a reasonable speed ?
This is possible using a DB60 crossover cable with one router providing clocking on the serial interface. However, keep in mind that the max throughput on a synchonous serial interface is 2 Mbps for the 1600 series. At least that's what I remember. You can determine that maximum clock rate the router supports by going into the router's serial interface and type "clock rate ?". It's either 2 Mbps or 4 Mbps. Won't keep up with a 10 Mbps port but it will work.
