The following 2500 series routers will support Async:
2520
2521
2522
2523
They will only support Async on the low speed sync/async ports.
2509
2511
AS2509
AS2511
Will support Async as well.

The question was, could a sync port on a 2500 (not 2509) be converted.
The answer for a 2509 is no. The 2509 has two High Speed Serial ports that cannot be converted to Async. It also has 8 High Speed Async ports that can only be Async.
