2502 routers question

Hello guys and girls,

need some help figuring out how to connect 3x2502 routers to existing ethernet 10/100 lan??

Just got those routers and am willing to learn for ccna/ccnp.

Got working lan with mix of linux and ms win pc's.

Now, need to connect those routers to small lan for testing purposes for ccna/ccnp and to be able to connect them to lan so I can access them from any pc in lan.

So, what's going to be the best way to connect them together and to lan and the low cost way.

Any idea and advice is more than welcome.

Very sincerely,

Dino K

Hi,

are you certain they are 2502's? Don't see em on the Cisco site. Do they have Ethernet interfaces available?

Refer:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/rt/2500/prodlit/c2500_ds.pdf

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/rt/2500/prodlit/2500a_ds.pdf

It is getting more and more difficult to find information about the 2500 series, especially with the new "Documentation and Support" site. But the 2502 really does exist. the best way is through the old documentation site:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_fix/cis2500/index.htm

But the bad news that comes out of that site is that 2502 is Token Ring only - no Ethernet.

I know now.

When I bought it, I didn't know that's token ring. But, now I need to network them together, so I need some kind of cables for that and some hub/switch so I can use token ring and may be some connector for connecting to existing ethernet lan.

I am ready to do this to be able to learn for ccna/ccnp.

Any advice on configuration, setup, cabling, hub/switches, connectors to ethernet lan, etc... is more than welcome.

Thanks in advance.

You will need a Token Ring MAU (Multiple Access Unit) and some cables. Think of the MAU as a kind of hub, but running a different media-access protocol. You should be able to find what you need quite cheaply somewhere like eBay.
