I have a 2600 router (2611XM) which i accidently cleared the ios that came with it out of the box. I have installed a couple different ios version but none of them recongize the FastEthernet interface. Is the problem with the IOS or is there a way to manually install the FastEthernet interface.

There is not a way to manually install the interface.
It sounds like the IOS image(s) you are installing are not quite correct for the box you are loading them on. When you get an image that is correct it should recognize the interface.

I agree with Rick. You need to find what IOS release came with your device and either obtain that or a more current image. That should clear your problem. Its obviously not correctly recognizing the current installed hardware in your router. You cant just throw images on there hoping they work. Look it up on this site to find your current IOS release.
