Are you able to upgrade 2924's via Ciscoworks . We seem to be having a problem trying to get it to work on these boxes , has worked fine on all the other Catos boxes we upgraded .

Sure you can. I've done about 40 or 50 of them. In fact I have 3 I just upgraded on my desk. Whats your error?

problem is when we try to submit a job it says there is no image in the library for the 2924 , but if you look in the library there are images in there for the 2924 , we have 2 images, one for the old 4 meg 2924's and one image for the newer 8 meg 2924's . So I don't why it is saying it can't find an image. Also another thing I noticed is that the 2924 does seem to support having Ciscoworks pull the IOS off the switch for the library says it is not supported , is this true ?

Hi,

to your second question:

You are not able to download an IOS image from 2924 (generally no XL switch).

The image is distributed as a .tar file which is unpacked to the flash (include .bin plus html files) during the IOS installtion procedure.

The original .tar file is not saved to the flash.

Are the images in your CW2000 library .tar or .bin files?

I'm afraid CW2000 support only .tar files, while using CLI you can install also .bin file only without web access to the switch.

So you are saying that I can only use the .tar files to upgrade via ciscoworks 2000 ? We normally have just been using the .bin files because we don't use the GUI . So any image for the 2900 must be a .tar then correct ? Do you know if this documented anywhere , i know it doesn't say anything in any of the help that I could find .

One thing you could try is to do a "Upgrade by image" That would tell you if you have the IOS in Ciscoworks. If not use the add to library link and get the file from CCO. Also check your options under admin. If you have "show newer" or some other thing checked it may filter out the image.

For some reason I got a warning that the new image I was putting on was older than the one currently running. I knew that wasnt the case, but if you have a filter on it may be filtering out your selection.

I think we have the image problem figured out but we are still getting this message when we submit the job .

Device Error: Cannot put the device into privileged mode.

Probable Cause: Invalid access information for the device. Recommended Action: Verify enable password, enable secret in the inventory, then retry the operation.

We have checked everything , all the device attributes come back ok , priviledged mode has tacacs on it . This comes back ok when you do a device attribute check also . Kind of stumped what to do next as all the attributes come back ok .

We have verified that all the attributes are ok and they do come back as ok when doing a attribute check.Tacacs which setup for priviledged mode also comes back ok in the attribute check . Any ideas ????

Does this happen to all of the 2900Xl's? I have had that happen on one that was piggybacked off of another switch.

Yes it seems to happen on all of them . Have been unable to get a 4 meg or 8 meg 2924 to upgrade , says cannot get into priviledgedmode even though all attributes come back saying they are ok .

you got me. I think i read of a issue where there wasnt enough space on the ram. It had to do with the amount for free space in the flash.

Good luck, you got me.

Hi,

have you installed IDU 9.0 for RME?

There is a bug CSCee71259 solved in it:

"In IDU 8.0, upgrading of Software Management failed for Catalyst 3500XL,

Catalyst 2900XL, and Catalyst 2950 devices. This occurred when the combined

size of the running image and the available free space was less than the size of the

new image."

See IDU 9.0 Release Notes.
