I had a contractor install two new Cisco 3550 switches. I have two servers: an old Novell 3.2, which I will get rid off soon, and a newer Windows 2000 server. After the new switches were installed, the users could not access the old Novell server. I finally figured out the problem - the auto detect setting for the frame type property on the NIC's wasn't working and I had to change it to 802.3. This wasn't a problem when I was using an HP Pro Curve 4000 switch. Only a problem with the Cisco switches. Anyone know why?

Hello,
your NIC might be one of those that have known interoperability problems with Cisco Catalyst switches. Check this document for your NIC, it might be in there:

Thanks! The listed NIC with problems explains a few other issues that I need to clear up. Looks like I'm spending the week upgrading NIC drivers.
