folks
i have a cat 4000 (2 1/2 years old) running a set based OS but i want to upgrade it to a newer IOS - is this possible?
i know i may be restricted by ram etc but i really don't care cos all i want is to move to a standard IOS

Since you have a 4003, you would have a Sup1 Engine(WS-X4012). It cannot run IOS. To run IOS you would need one of the following Supervisors
Sup2+-->WS-X4013+
Sup3 -->WS-X4014
Sup4 -->WS-X4515
Sup5 -->WS-X4516
Note that you cannot install any of the above in a 4003 chassis. So you would need to replace both your chassis and Supervisor if you want to run IOS

thanks for the prompt reply - that what i call a responsive forum!
sounds like an expensive upgrade so i suspect i'll stay with the exsting OS
